What To Expect with A Cataract Surgeon?

It is important that you and your cataract surgeon are both on the same page with regard to your situation as well as the expected course of action. You need to feel comfortable with the surgeon as well as their staff. Are your questions being answered to your satisfaction? Are you feeling rushed into a decision before you feel you have all of the facts? Do you understand all of the benefits as well as the risks with cataract surgery? Make sure that you aren’t being told that your vision will become perfect, and understand that you may still need some glasses after the surgery in the long term. Find out the process after the surgery, both for the rest of the day as well as the next day and any other future meetings.

Who Is Andrew Shatz, M.D.?

Dr. Shatz is the Medical Director of SightTrust Eye Institute. Dr. Shatz has advanced training in topical, laser-assisted cataract and refractive lens exchange surgery, clear-corneal (“no-stitch”) cataract surgery, multifocal and accommodating implants, and phakic intraocular lens implant surgery. He has worked with leaders in the entertainment, sports, and business world, including athletes such as Troy Aikman, Warren Sapp and coach Jimmy Johnson. He has successfully completed tens of thousands of operations, and this experience is what he brings to all of his clients.

Cataract Surgery Itself

A week or two before the surgery, your cataract surgeon will do some tests to measure the size and shape of your eye so that they can plan appropriately for your surgery. The surgery typically takes under an hour, and you will be mildly sedated for the procedure. You will need someone to drive you home as well. If you have both eyes done, they can be performed on the same day (bilateral same-day cataract surgery) or separated by a few days. When you are ready to have your cataract surgery performed, look no further than SightTrust Eye Institute. Patients all over the area in Plantation, Miami, Boca Raton, Fort Lauderdale, Parkland, Weston, and the surrounding areas recommend them.
