“Are there any alternatives to cataract surgery?”

Cataracts are an inevitable part of life.  They usually begin developing in the 50s, and if we live long enough we will ultimately need them removed.  Fortunately, cataract surgery is an amazing procedure:  we can replace the “worn out” lens with an implant that can provide excellent distance and reading vision without the need for glasses!  There is no alternative to having cataract surgery, aside from wearing glasses and “muddling through” the poor vision.  But once the procedure is done, it will never need to be repeated. And more often than ever, patients are choosing to have their lenses removed prior to them becoming full-fledged cataracts as a means to permanently improve their vision!
