Monofocal Lens Options

Not very long ago, when patients would have cataract or clear lens replacement surgery, the only option they would have would be monofocal lenses. They could choose if they wanted to have distance vision or up-close vision, but they couldn’t have both in the same lens. Today, multifocal lenses have come along and changed the game with cataract and lens exchange surgeries. Patients can opt for the multifocal lenses that are like trifocal glasses and not have to worry about glasses at all. This can greatly enhance the quality of life for patients as they don’t need to worry about the additional hassle of glasses.

Multifocal Lenses

When you work with SightTrust Eye Institute, you will have several different lens options to choose from. There are several different multifocal lenses that we offer to patients and our team can help explain the differences with all of them. The first option is the TECNIS multifocal lens which provides a wide range of vision for distance and near tasks. Another option is the Crystalens multifocal lens. It uses the eye’s internal muscles to flex in order to focus on objects at varying distances, from distance to intermediate tasks. The next level of multifocal lenses is the ReStor multifocal lens option. The basic option provides excellent vision over a wide range of distances, reducing or eliminating your need for glasses for the majority of activities, while the Toric variety helps to correct astigmatism. For those that prefer the best range of vision, there is a special trifocal lens option in PanOptix and Synergy IOLs. The PanOptix is the first trifocal lens for patients undergoing cataract or lens replacement surgery.
